CMS at ICHEP: useful links

CERN / ICHEP Higgs Seminar, 4th July 2012

Plan for the day
  • 09:00 – 11:00 ... CERN seminar with video link to ICHEP, Melbourne
    CMS (45’), ATLAS (45’), Q &A for physicists (30’)
  • Towards end of the second talk … results made public (CERN press release + ATLAS & CMS Statements)
  • 11:00 - 12:00 (might slip a bit) … Press Conference in Council Chamber
    • 10-20 minute re-cap of results (Fabiola, Joe, Rolf) then Q & A
    • ~15 CMS interviewees (Teresa + Joe + Dave B making a list)
    • ~5 CMS interviewees will be available in the council chamber during the seminar to help explain things to journalists
    • All CMS interviewees need a special badge to enter the Council Chamber. They are available from 07:30 in room D (61-1-017) next to the Council Chamber
  • After the press conference … talking to journalists at CERN and outside
    If remote institutes want to connect to CERN by video to talk to specific people they should organize this themselves. They are encouraged to make use of all the CMS meeting room facilities.
How to follow the event -- at CERN
  • In person, in the CERN main auditorium ... N.B. space will be at a premium !
  • The event will be re-broadcast to a number of other CERN rooms:
    • 40-S2-A01, 40-S2-B01, 40-S2-C01
    • Filtration plant (bât. 222)
    • Kjell Johanssen (bât. 30), TH Amphitheatre, IT Amphitheatre, BE Auditorium, Prevessin
  • CERN/IT should start the webcast. If not CMS people should be prepared to do it (see URLs in next seciton).
How to follow the event -- outside CERN

The seminar and the press conference are a separate webcasts -- the links are shown on the links shown below.

Technical support: webcast-support@cern.ch (or Thomas Baron or failing that: Marek Domaracky ).

There are three different webcast options:

  • 1) Webcast to physicists (CERN login required, up to 6000 connections)
  • 2) IP-protected webcast for CMS institutes hosting media events
  • 3) Open webcast for the public: http://webcast.cern.ch
    • Also, the EVO team will establish an EVO transmission , and record it
    • A professional crew will film the seminar, feed it live by satellite to TV companies, and record it and make a summary movie (CDS)
  • CMS Statement and Press Releases

    The definitive summary of CMS results are in the CMS statement [PDF]. The web version [LINK TO BE ADDED] will include links to many other CMS languages.

    • CMS institutes are encouraged to work with their own media relations offices using the CERN press release and the CMS statement.
    • Institutes must not make any information public until after CMS has presented the results in public and the CERN Press Release has been made suring the seminar (check at: http://cern.ch/press)
    Event Display Images for the media

    In general the media prefer dramatic, 3D views without text and detector elements such as these selected examples:

    Supporting materials
    • The statement contains many links to event display images, animations, videos, background explanations, etc.
    • The slides of the public presentation of the CMS Higgs results [ Add link when ready ]
      • These will be made available to CMS members once they are final (just before the presentation).
      • Please do not circulate them outside CMS before the presentation.
    • Higgs boson -- terms and definitions
    • An internal FAQ Twiki page has been created for people to collect typical questions that they could expect to be asked. All CMS physicists are encouraged to edit this page to add questions or give suggestions for answers.

     

    Other New CMS Results at ICHEP

    A public page has been created with highlights of other CMS results presented at ICHEP, including links to further information. It includes references to "high priority analyses" explicitly and has general links to the ICHEP pages for other CMS contributions.

    This page will be updated during the conference as new materials become available.
