The Prime Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault visited CERN on the 30th of July, accompanied by the Minister of Higher Education and Research Mme Geneviève Fioraso.

The Prime Minister said that he came to "salute the remarkable perseverance of of the scientists" following the announcement of the discovery of a new particle compatible with the Higgs boson, the missing link for the theory of fundamental interactions and which was sought for decades. He expressed is "gratitude in the name of France" and insisted that "fundamental science must be supported".

It was an honour for CMS to receive the delegation for a visit of the control room and the experimental hall. The CMS spokesperson Joe Incandela was accompanied for this visit by French physicists from the four main laboratories of CNRS and CEA (Jérémy Andrea - IPHC IN2P3 & U . Strasbourg, Bernard Ille - IPN IN2P3 & U. Lyon, Jean-Louis Faure - SPP IRFU, Yves Sirois - LLR IN2P3 & E. Polytechnique).

Visite du Premier Ministre Français Mr. Jean-Marc Ayrault

Le Premier ministre français Monsieur. Jean-Marc Ayrault a visité le CERN le 30 juillet, accompagné par le Ministre de l'Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche Geneviève Fioraso.

Le Premier ministre a affirmé être venu pour "saluer la remarquable persévérance des chercheurs" suite à l'annonce de la découverte d'une nouvelle particule compatible avec le boson de Higgs, le chaînon manquant de la théorie des interactions fondamentales, recherché depuis des décennies. Il a tenu a exprimé sa "reconnaissance au nom de la France" et affirmé que la "recherche fondamentale doit être soutenue”.

Ce fut un honneur pour CMS de recevoir la délégation pour une visite de la salle de contrôle et du hall expérimental. Le porte-parole de CMS Joe Incandela était accompagné pour cette visite par des physiciens français des quatre principaux laboratoires du CNRS et du CEA (Jérémy Andrea - IPHC IN2P3 & U . Strasbourg, Bernard Ille - IPNL IN2P3 & U.C.B. Lyon, Jean-Louis Faure - SPP IRFU, Yves Sirois - LLR IN2P3 & E. Polytechnique).
